Take It Out!
Growing up in a home where there was a real live Ms. Clara, as in the movie War Room, we consistently heard this phrase somewhere in the prayer…”Turn Your light on and search my heart. If You find anything in me that ought not be take it out of me, Lord!” We called her Big Momma. She died on her birthday at 101 years old. Wow! God blessed us to be a part of her family by way of adoption. It was in His divine plan. We heard her pray for us constantly. She had to! In the Spirit she saw us becoming like the daughter she raised. Oh my goodness, our Mom was a sassy somebody! Big Momma knew how to pray for her though, and it was quite a challenge battling with some of the things that had found its way into her heart.
In some ways I wanted to be like Momma because she was very pretty, shapely, infectious smile and a personality that captured your attention. Then there was Momma the Ferocious and Fearless! You better not cross her the wrong way, eat her starch (Yep, Argo), or give her children the chicken back at the church homecoming dinner. She would cuss you up one side and down the other. I did want to cuss. Tried it and had to go outside and pick out my very own switch. Big Momma prayed for us.
One night I noticed that Momma’s eyes were red, but it wasn’t the usual red from smoking. She had gone to church on a Friday night and Jesus saved my MOMMA! Unbelievable! But I did believe. This woman whom I had seen take men by the back of their collars and throw them out the door, heart had been softened and transformed. Then she led me and my two sisters to Jesus Christ. There was a heart change and the cleansing began.
God’s plan is to get the junk out of our hearts. It’s full of wickedness and all kinds of ungodly evil. Sounds a little rough, but it’s true. The heart of man is wicked, who can know it? GOD. He sees what’s in your heart and He wants to help you. You can do it His way, or you can do it the hard way. Some don’t believe that they have anything bad in their heart because they are good people. Beloved, don’t be deceived. You do. Since you are striving to be like Jesus, the Holy Spirit begins to point to the stuff that needs to come out, but you love the stuff…you refuse to let it go. This keeps you from being like Him. You begin to look more and more like the thing, the ugly thing, and the detestable thing you love. Repent.
There is help for this kind of cleansing, especially for the one in denial. It’s called Prophet, Apostle, Pastor, Evangelist, and Teacher led by the Holy Spirit. Repent. If your heart is empty of all the junk, then why does junk keep coming out of your mouth?
A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. Luke 6:45
”Turn Your light on and search my heart.
If You find anything in me that ought not be take it out of me, Lord!”
